namaste Hello and welcome! Come in and stay for a bit. So glad you're here. It's a great way to share some of my recent work with you and other announcements not on my main portfolio site. If you happen to be one of the one billion people who is also on Facebook, make sure to "like" my page for more updates, specials and fun posts about everything baby/family/kids.

Just so you know and so I get to include lots of keywords -- my name is Robyn Davis and I am a Los Angeles (and occasionally Chicago and other locales) baby photographer, child photographer and maternity photographer who specializes in casual, natural light maternity photography, baby photography and children's portraits. In short, I have one of the best jobs on the planet.

Thank you for visiting! Take a gander, leave a comment and tune in again real soon for the new wacky episodes and goings-on around here.  - Robyn

I'm excited to present a some of the shots from our Father's Day package winner, Meghan and the lucky recipient (and Dad) Drew! They also live here in Laurel Canyon so I was so excited to shoot around this magical enclave in LA that I love so much and now call home.

Before the session, I drove around the surrounding area of their home (wayyyyy up high on the hill) and found a few spots I wanted to use. Well, by the time I got done shooting inside a little bit, the sun had moved and a couple spots weren't in optimal light anymore. So we walked around a bit and were admiring this FANTASTICAL tree house of their neighbors. They made it custom around the branches of the trees which were built into the walls, to go through holes they made.

So we hear a voice call out "would you like to see it?" -- and it's the neighbor and owner of this crazy cool tree house (which has its own address, btw). So we got to go in it! Wood stairs up, trap door, hammock inside, little porch. SOOO cool! And, voila!, a superb location was found. Thank you serendipitous and fabulous Universe.

treehouse_quad.jpgThe treehouse has its own little yard area, pictured below, and behind that bamboo fence is the edge of the hill that looks over LA and the houses in the canyon below. Breathtaking.

canyon_trio.jpg
After we left the treehouse, we walked down to another spot I had scoped out that was still looking good. Another thing I love in the neighborhood is all the various architecture -- homes that look like castles, spanish style villlas and also very modern beautiful homes mixed with interesting plants, all new to look at for a midwestern girl like me.

I found this groovy house with the beautiful clean blue glass for its garage and entryway and wanted to shoot it, with the canyon foliage across the street reflected in the windows.

pinson_family.jpgBig brother Alex was my lighting subject as I was metering -- this could totally be his Hollywood kid star head shot. What a handsome guy!

alex_garage.jpgThere are so many more from the session, it was hard to choose. We were having such a good time, I took so many and I'm having a hard time narrowing down. Oy. I'll leave this off with a few I took of Elliot when we were hanging out in his bedroom and he was showing me all his favorite stuff...

Yay! One of my shots was featured on the cover of LA Parent Magazine, out today, for the October issue. Thanks to editor Carolyn Graham for taking a shine to my work and giving me a shot. I wrote her a note after we moved, introducing myself that I had just relocated and was a children's photographer and how much I used the magazine to find all things kid and family in LA after the move. They were great to work with and hope I get an opportunity to do it again.

If you are in LA, be sure to check them out online at www.laparent.com or on Facebook, for regular updates of groovy things to do and see around town!

Remember these guys? My stripey twins are a year old already! With the move to CA this year, I was worried about being able to shoot the entire one year package as I had done for their older sister on her first year (includes a book, it's awesome -- especially for parents of twins. You know you'll never finish an album. I mean, seriously).

But serendipity intervened with timing this year and I was able to get back to Chicago for both their 6 month and their one year session.

It was a hell of a lot harder doing the follow-up stripes shot. This is a window bench in a small bathroom. This is the only shot I got of them in that spot and I didn't even have time to put up my bounce -- I snapped it to see where the light was at (dark morning that day) and keeping them from launching off it was not really working so well. But it works and it's so them -- Sarah standing, she's always on the go. Norah is just checking it all out, amused by the circus in the bathroom.

Big sis Sophie slept in a little later and we got to have some separate play time outside after these crazy girls went for a nap (see below).

franklin_1yrlater.jpgHere's a little medley of some of my faves of the two, as we played around in the early morning:

twins_medley2.jpgAnd one I just love, a candid I caught as Dad turned around with them -- Mom loves it, she says, because Sarah is "almost never vertical." These are the shots that I treasure so much of my own kids. The stuff that is just so uniquely THEM, freezing a little piece of that time for me.

sideways_sarah.jpgAnd here's miss Sophie Sunshine, now 3. Talk about FAST! Seems more like a year since I got to do HER newborn session! This family is all over my main web site. I remember she had been up all night (as had her parents) and it was the first I met any of them. They were so easy going, we just made the best of it and took our time, feeding and rocking and trying to assure her that life on the outside wasn't so bad. I'm so lucky and grateful to have them all. When I'm doing your senior HS pix, Sophie, that's when I'm really going to freak out...

At long last the kids are back in school and I'm back to the blog (and having 3 consecutive uninterrupted thoughts in a row!). I think it'll take me a month or more to get through all the photos I took this summer, both for work and pleasure. We spent first half of August traveling back to the Midwest, spending equal time in Chicago and Wisconsin. We had a wedding/family reunion and visited both sides of family and countless friends. I'm barely recovered. But I was also thrilled to get to book sessions with a couple of my favorite regular clients while I was there.

I have been working with this family for 3 years, beginning with a maternity shoot when mom was pregnant with the first and on bed rest for nearly the entire pregnancy. She had a very difficult go of it and they weren't certain they would be blessed with any children at all, much less this second addition named Thomas -- just two years after the first! Again she was on bed rest the entire time. What a trooper! I'm so happy I've gotten to know them and to share a little bit of the journey.

We keep in touch via email and I demand update pix, especially since I missed Thomas' arrival. But this time I got to meet him live and in the chubby squishy flesh. He's only 7 months old here but, HOLY COW, so big and strong. And fast! And busy! More like a one-year session, I was breaking a sweat trying to keep up with him. Thanks for the workout, buddy, and it was awesome to meet you.

meeting_thomas.jpgHere's one of my fave images, from a Mom's perspective I just love it. His three teef. His neck that you would just bury your head in for a kiss and a sniff of Eau De Bebé...

meeting_thomas2.jpg
Oh but let's not forget the original! Brother William! This bugger and I go way back. It was SO cool to see him totally going big boy on me, talking and running the house. I devoted a lot of the session to him and his fireman obsession because it's totally him right now. He's got this super cool wooden fire house from Grandma and you can see how loved that hat is. >melt<
